limited top speed but good acceleration
I have used this variator/pulley extensively. It was my first aftermarket variator and on the whole it is an improvement over the stock unit. The thing it is best for is good acceleration, so for town riding or steep hills it is ideal. Due to the small diameter of the drive face, it tops out too quickly and top speed will likely be less than the stock variator gives you no matter what weights you use. I had this installed on a 2000 mild road trip and I found this very frustrating at times. Afterwards I got a Polini variator - you can see the two side by side and the size difference is very obvious. The Polini performed better for high speed but the KN has its place if acceleration is your main concern.
