It was adopted because of the interference that occurred when replacing the Carburetor.
If you don't want to buy a PinGel or something just for interference avoidance, I can recommend it for the Cost part.
However, it's not over or underwhelming to use, but if I had to say anything, Knob is pretty stiff. (Although I dislike PinGel's overly-smooth infinite adjustment even more.)
